Life's a beach
Serious part of the conference over, Wednesday was time for the reef trip. Now, for those of you who think, "Cairns, Winter-time, must be warm and dry," you are wrong. It was cold. It was wet. It was windy. The water was choppy.
The ferry went up and down and side to side, and I'm glad that I have a stiff constitution. A couple of the other people felt a little on the queasy side. Once we got there, the weather wasn't quite as bad.
Rebecca and I went for a walk through the forest, and we also had a snorkel on the reef. It was sensational. The colours of the fish. The coral. The peace and quiet under water. Even more sensational, we could actually hear the fish eating! There was sort of this du-doop sound. I wondered what it was, and eventually realised that it was in time with the fish eating.
While underwater, I got a couple of scratches on my left arm, and had some pieces of coral stuck in my arm.
We also had a good time with the other people from the conference.
The ride back to Cairns was far calmer, and we got back without incident. Back in Cairns, we gradually said goodbye to people, picked up a car and said goodbye to Cairns.
My favourite procrastinations
The Head Heeb - Jonathan provides a balanced view on various Israeli and (former) colonial states in less developed regions of the world.
The Bladder - a sports satire site. Well worth a look.
