A voice and a platformAs many of my readers will know, I quite like having a platform to say stuff. In general, I'm not terribly fussed what it is I am talking about, but I think I should have more of a voice in society. Come Monday, I will get another avenue to try and influence the world around me. In this case, I will have a class of 3rd year Engineering students who I want to try to teach to think. Yes, that's right, come Monday I am lecturing. Hence the decrease in posting frequency as I have been preparing the upcoming course. I have a couple of weeks' lectures prepared, and I'm looking forward to giving them. I realise that, ultimately, I can't make the students do anything (nor should I have to - it is in their interests to do well and to do what they should), but it should be interesting. Other things of interest: My son is still will-be-alive and kicking. I have kept wickets in the indoor cricket matches I have played. It took me a couple of overs to get the hang of it, but after that I have been doing alright. I even took a catch! We have bought a car - a blue VW touran. I have been on a teaching course and am enrolled in a teaching in Higher Education scheme. J. Craig Venter = Flying Spaghetti Monster. Ok, nothing to do with me, but I thought it needed to be said. We have been to synagogue a couple of times, including for a lunch and we even made it early enough to attend the shiur (lesson). This was particuarly interesting. The topic was Euthanasia. Have a happy Australia Day all, and don't forget, in the words of the great man, "It's time we took tax cuts off the table and put lamb cuts on it" Comments |
